By Ed Perley
Moses Perley moved from Vermont to western Iowa and purchased land there in 1855. Farmland there has been in continuous possession of the Perley family since then.
I would be very interested to learn more about one individual from my family. Chauncy Burton Perley was born in 1871 in eastern Iowa. He was a draftsman and designer for the U.S. Navy in California and Oregon, and in later years was a consulting engineer in Chicago. He managed farm operations in western Iowa during the summers. He was known locally as Bert Perley. He was killed in a bicycle accident in 1910. He has been described as a very unusual person. Places he is known to have been employed are at the Iron Works in Dubuque, Iowa, the Navy Yard in San Francisco, and a ship building concern at Port Huron, Michigan. If anyone knows anything about him, I would appreciate the information.
